WHY church membership?

Church membership in today's culture may seem antiquated. But we believe that there is a direct connection between membership and spiritual growth. Many people look for community and spiritual growth but they spurn the need for commitment and the idea of spiritual accountability.

We believe that membership in the local church is necessary to our spiritual growth and joy in the faith. In the letters of the New Testament, authors writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit primarily speak to local churches with the intention that the word of God would be received by a gathered community that is committed and accountable to one another.

"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers" (Acts 2:42).

Would you consider what it would mean for you to take the next step in church membership with us?

How to join

The first step towards church membership is to attend the New Members Class which is offered four times a year. The New Member's Class is both a requirement for membership and an opportunity for you to find out more about our church including the many ministries we offer. The New Members Class is a wonderful place to ask any questions that you may have. Dinner is provided and childcare is available upon request at the church office.

The 2023 Sunday evening class dates are January 15, April 16, July 9, and October 8. The class begins at 5:00pm, starts in Duffy Hall and includes dinner. Childcare is available upon request in the church office for children under the age of 5.

After you attend the class and turn the membership form into the church office, one of the elders will follow up with you. Those seeking membership at BSBC are voted upon at the quarterly members' meeting by the church a few weeks after the class takes place.
